Whole soldering the power supply for my latest project yesterday, I managed to burn my thumb. While picking up the iron I some how managed to drop it. I didn't want it to fall on the carpet or the wiring that lays around under my desk or anything else, so I made an attempt to catch it before it hit the floor. As I did it I realized what a stupid idea that was, but it seemed like for ever for the message to get from my brain to my hand so I only half grabbed the iron as it fell. My thumb made an unpleasant sizzle type noise (perhaps I imagined that part) and then came the yucky smell of burnt skin.

It didn't hurt anywhere near as bad as it looked. And nothing was damaged on the floor. At least everything that is supposed to be networked it still passing electrons. And I managed to courageously battle on with my project depsite the injury. Although it feels odd now when I press the space bar while typing. I know, I'll have a week off work to recover!

I think I have conclusive proof the South Island is 30 years behind the rest of the world. Down in Alexandra some of the locals got restless and had a little fight outside the Caltex gas station. TV3 news sent out a film crew to interview the local sheriff. In the background you could see cars going in and out of the gas station. Every single one of them was a 1970s or very early 80s car. There was an HR and a HQ Holden, a 1970s Chrysler Valiant and a couple of early 80s Falcons. Not a new Japanese car in sight.

The photo is a potatoshopped cabbage tree.

  • after standing on monopoly house and burning your thumb what are you going to do next. I would stay in bed for a while if I was you. (on your own so you can't damage anyone else)
