NIKON D70 - 1/60 sec, f1.8 at 50mm

I missed out on winning the auction to spend a day with a Dom Post photographer. Despite the risk that I'd get assigned to a sports photographer, and would have to spend the day with bloody boofhead rugby players, I thought it'd be a cool thing to do, and a great way to learn to take photos.

So last week when I placed my first bid, I set myself a limit of $121. I wasn't going to go above that number. But as the week wore on I wanted it more and more, and ended up flagging the auction away at $175.

At least this auction wasn't going to be a win for some dickhead selling something that didn't quite match the description. And it was a for a good cause. So I guess it's not so bad that the adenaline and manly competitiveness pushed my bidding higher than I wanted.

Besides, it's helping Sam reach his sales targets for this year so the he gets his bonus $50 million.

The photo is of Sarah's attempts at knitting. It's going well don't you think?

  • They're also an effective weight loss mechanism....I was after something very rare on e-bay last year....didn't eat for 24hrs from nerves and ended up having to pay my son to wake up in the middle of the night when the auction was near its finish to ensure I secured the item....the added frustration was a random storm hit AKL and the power was going out every few hours for hours on end....thank God for auto bidding! Cool knitting...soon she can make you a beanie!

  • Surely the lad could have done it for free to keep his old mother happy?
