Tonight marks a welcome return to DICPB. I can't recall what the charge is for drink driving in the US, so I can't translate for you, but here DIC means Drunk in Charge of a motor vehicle. Which is odd because DICOAMV seems more relevant. DICB means I'm photoblogging after 2 beers and 3 glasses of Church Road Merlot.

Anyways. tonight while watching the news, we saw an item where the Crown Prosecutor was describing the case. Apparently a good for nothing, filthy, bunch of lowlifes decided to beat up a drunk guy as he walked home from the pub one night back in March. They hit him with a baseball bat. Actually it was likely a softball bat. I'm not sure if there is any difference. It killed him anyway.

The Crown Prosecutor (I think that's the same as your DA) said something along the lines of "the defendants decided to attack an invulnerable person as he walked home, intoxicated, from the pub".

Invulnerable, I thought to myself. If he was invulnerable, then he wouldn't have a problem with thugs. He is after all invulnerable. Now if on the other hand he was vulnerable, thats a whole different kettle of fish.

It's good to see the Government hiring the finest legal minds to prosecute the scumbags!

The Photo

Part 2 of my series of "Tastes good on the BBQ". The light was really great yesterday. The Sun was out for an hour and then it rained cats and dogs for 20 minutes, then the sun came out again. Everything looked really good bathed in sunshine with nasty angry dark clouds behind. While I knew the light was fantastic, unfortunately my creativity didn't match the conditions.

I knew what I wanted this guy to look like. But my command of potatoshop tonight is somewhat lacking.

  • I saw that piece on the news and didn't hear the 'in' before the 'vulnerable' part...how much had you had to drink by the time the news was on? As for Mr Moo, try Select>Color Range then click in the middle of the moo's belly where it's dark, slide the slider to suit, click ok, and feather about 2-5px or to suit. When you have your selection (it will be the dark areas) adjust through curves and/or levels and I think you will get a better result.

  • I was so happy to see the guy from Lower Hutt who rescued all of the furniture from the house that was about to go tits-up. They were the Nation Family. The story said that he was their hero. Does that make him Roger Ramjet?

  • I concede. THe morning paper has a dircet quote of what I saw on TV last night and there is no 'in'. Although perhaps the paper fixed up her small slip? Thanks for the Potatoshop lesson, I'll give it a whirl tonight.

  • Thanks for the US conversions in the post. In the US drunk driving is DUI (driving under the influence) or other states are DWI (driving while intoxicated) or the catchall OWI (operating while intoxicated). Thanks for the wonderful pictures, there were lots of tasty animals at the Wisconsin State Fair.

  • not to nitpick (well, ok, maybe this is nitpicking). it's a lovely photo and all, but the blur looks potatoshopped. you may want to play with the lens blur instead of gaussian for a more natural looking depth of field(?)
