I lost my contact lens yesterday. I blinked it out while I was walking back to the office with my lunch (a Sate Chicken and Salad sammie and a small bottle of Coke). I've only been wearing one lens for the last year, so I was buggered if I could find the damn thing on the footpath (sidewalk).

Which meant that I effectly couldn't work, couldn't drive, watch TV, play on the WWW, take photos or anything else that I normally do. Eating dinner was hard work. Even crossing the road was risky. Drinking beer was still easy enough. As was playing games!

Having Gabba drive me is bad enough at the best of times. But given I couldn't see anything past the end of my nose it was excrutiating to sit in the passenger seat and be driven about all day. But she managed (amazingly) to get us safely over to Remmers to see Ralph this afternoon.

He has loaned me one of his test GP lenses until I can have a new one made and fitted me with a soft lens for my right eye (the one with the dead guy sewn onto it).

The eyesight I have now is nothing short of incredible. Everything is so contrasty and saturated. Color is good. I'm looking a little like a dick while I look around at everything and marvel again at what texture is.

Best of all I can read the info inside the viewfinder of the camera now and can tell when anything is in focus. So now I need to get out and start taking photos again.

If you need an optometrist in Auckland, Ralph Thompson is the best. Although, I think he's a Porsche driver, which is a problem.

The photo is for me. It's very red and very green and the leaves have texture. Which yesterday they were none of those things.

  • Glad you can see now. I assume Ralph isn't on the shitlist.

  • Pot plant was on the cowch and the flash was on the floor firing upwards, with -1FV and the wide angle flap and diffuser on the front of the flash

  • I dig this too...gives the leaves a nice translucent feel.
